Kinja'd!!!

I did a double-take when I saw this golden beauty at a gas station in northern Virginia yesterday. It's a Rover 3500 V8! I don't think I've EVER seen one.

Heh, mine was the same way. From the factory, they had a clever self-leveling strut arrangement, but they all broke, and with parts NLA, everybody just put in regular coil overs.

A real unicorn on this side of the pond.

Nice! I saw one for sale on eBay a while ago, and was tempted (I had one back in New Zealand). The US-market bumpers and headlights really didn't do them any favours though, and although there is an excellent supply of spares from the UK, I bet some of the US-specific stuff is hard to find.

They're great to drive, if you can iron out all the electrical gremlins, and put up with their tendency to rust.

That's how you find the forefathers to Jalopnik. Rover SD1s appear abandoned at gas stations in Virginia.

Grew up around those, including the "jam sandwich" police variant, which I got to take a free ride in once or twice. The motor was the British small-block Chevy, basis of every hotrod build in the 1970s and 1980s along with a Jag IRS and Wolfrace five-slots and General Grabbers!

I drove one in 1984 in Scotland while visiting friends. That was their daily driver.

The US-spec headlights and bumpers completely ruin its beauty.

Yeah they do. At least the P6 3500 got those cool hood scoops.
